The GTU library offers a wide range of services to the community. Learn more about getting a card and using the GTU library here!

Welcome!

Front of libraryWelcome to the GTU library.

This guide can help you navigate your visit to the GTU library, please see the side navigation for answers to some common questions, and feel free to contact us. We are happy to help!

There is a chat box on the left side of every page, but you can also call or email us with questions. Chat and email are the best ways to reach a librarian.

Getting help

You'll be interacting mostly with two departments while using the library: circulation and reference.

The reference department has librarians who can help you with your research, using the library, or any other questions on course work you might have. Our contact information is on this page (and every LibGuide). You can make research appointments anytime. We try to be available during our posted hours, but sometimes we are busy teaching workshops, or may be working on other projects. The easiest way to see if we are available is to look at the chat. When we are available it's green, and it times out when we are away from the desk!

2023 General reference hours (these change over holidays/breaks, check our website for librarian availability)

GTU Main Library
Weekdays : 9:00am - 4:00pm

The circulation department handles anything regarding your library account or inventory control of library items at the GTU library, and at our SFTS branch library. There is a member of the circulation staff available during all open hours, and they can help you set up a community borrowing card, if you want to borrow items.

The circulation staff of either location can help you:

  • check-out or return materials
  • renew books (in person, online, or over the phone)
  • place holds (to have the book delivered to either location from the other, or from storage- you can also do this online)
  • recalls (when the book is checked out and we ask for it to be brought back for your use)
  • paying fines (although we hope you renew and not have any fines!)

Circulation department at GTU: 510-649-2500
Circulation department at SFTS branch: 415-451-2848; email is best: gordon_gilmore@redlands.edu

The circulation department will communicate with you via email to let you know when your books are due or when holds can be picked up- so please keep an up-to-date email on file with us if you are borrowing books.
